Choosing The Right Colour For Your Shutters

March 16, 2023

Read time

You’ve chosen your shutter style, now it’s time to choose the colour. At Aspire Shutters you’ll be glad to hear we spoil our customers with a wide choice and offer a number of colours for our painted shutters. From the whitest of whites to the darkest of greys, and not to mention a rainbow of bright colours, we’re guaranteed to have a colour and shade that will compliment your room perfectly. But if you’re undecided on what will work in your living space, our latest blog is here to help.

Should You Choose Neutrals or Bright Colours?

Choosing the right colour is personal. Some of our customers want a nice bright colour to compliment their living space, whereas other customers prefer to have a neutral tone. There’s no right or wrong choice - your shutters will always look great. However, if you’re a bit stuck on which colour to choose, our experienced team are always here to give their advice on the best choice for your room. So lets get down to the options - should you choose neutrals or bright colours

If you want to give a nice warmth to your room, colours like, cream or ivory/off-white, take the edge off a harsh white colour and are more subtle in your living space. And because these colours are neutral your won’t have to worry about the colour clashing with curtains or the colour palette in the room.

If you’re after something a bit more contemporary and want to make your shutters a feature within the room, then a bright bold colour can really set the tone. Yellows, reds and blues tend to be the most common and look great in any room.

When it comes to colour choice, there are so many to choose from. If you change your decor regularly, we recommend sticking to a more neutral colour. Not only do neutral colours look great all year round, they also compliment every style. In the last few years we have seen a large increase in the amount of customers choosing a dove grey or pale grey colour, something that you wouldn’t have really seen inside a house.

Make a Feature of Your Shutters

As we mentioned, why not make your window a focal point of the room and choose a colour that grabs your attention the minute you walk in. Colours such as, red, yellow, green and blue are perfect hues. We can customise your shutters to suit a wide range of colours, so whether you’re looking for an understated colour or bright and vibrant, we can help. And if you’re stuck for ideas, why not check out our gallery for some great inspiration.

Handy tip: If the decor in your room is darker, why not opt for a lighter style of shutter so they stand out.

Paulownia Shutters from Aspire Shutters

When it comes to creating shutters for our customers, we don’t cut corners and we only use the very best of materials and hardware. So it’s no surprise that we use the beautiful Paulownia wood in our shutters.

But what is Paulownia wood and why is it our go-to choice (amongst other hard woods). In today’s blog our team is taking a look at this amazing wood and giving you a full run-down.

Typically grown in Southeast Asia, Paulownia wood is used throughout the world in a number of industries. From construction and bio-fuel to surfboards and, of course, wooden shutters. The reason why it’s so popular, and is our number one choice, is because of its sustainability and reliability as a hardwood. And because Paulownia has a fine grain and is knot free, it’s the perfect wood when it comes to painting and staining.

Now we know what you’re thinking, “hardwoods are heavy”. Well, that’s where Paulownia is different. Although it’s a hardwood, it’s actually around 1/3 lighter than most others and is one of the reasons why it’s used on tier-on-tier shutters on on wider recesses and gaps.

Great for Our Customers and Great For the Environment

Paulownia wood is guaranteed to grow quickly, making it the perfect wood for the growing demands around the world. A tree with deep roots and an established root system, yields around one cubic meter of hardwood in 8 years. After this time a new stem sill shoot. With this constant and quick growth, it means a single plantation of paulownia wood can be harvested several times making it a highly sustainable wood.

Perfect for Custom Shutters

Our shutters are made to the exact measurements of your windows and are available in different thicknesses. So you see, when it comes to choosing shutters for windows, Paulownia wood is the number one choice.
